The Burning Tree March 14, 2012

Picture
While doing our annual spring "field fire",  the wind  briefly changed direction and caught a partially dead tree on fire up on the hill next to the ledges.  The punky core continued to burn into the night.  When we came home from church, we could see it from the road and went up to check on it.  What a spectacular nightime sight!  I took some long- exposure pictures to capture the night sky behind it.  They are in the photo gallery to the right.  Most of the exposures are about 30 seconds in length.  The second photo gallery is of the night sky that night from the top of the hill - it was beautiful!  Venus & Jupiter had just set. You can see some of the constellations such as Orion & Tarsus and the Plaidies. A little after 11PM I was able to push over the top part of the tree to prevent the sparks from flying off the top.
