Mowing the Church Lawn

For the past few years, Lee & Karen have been mowing the lawn at Springville Baptist Church.  For the 4th of July in 2019, Lee had the idea to try and mow an American Flag in the lawn.  The lawn of the church slopes upward from route 29 and it was thought that it would be easily visible from the road.  Unfortunately, the pattern turned out so large that it was difficult to recognize what it was.  But using a drone, the pattern becomes instantly recognizable.

The white stripes were made by setting the mower deck extremely low to the point of almost scalping the lawn.  The other stripes were left unmowed.  Interestingly, the clippings from where the lawn was mowed at the low setting were blown onto the sections that were not mowed and after they dried and turned brown, they gave the unmowed stripes a reddish tint. The "stars" are simply round patches made with a string trimmer cutting almost to the dirt.
