Making Apple Cider Fall of 2024
2024 was another great year for apples. The orchard behind Lee & Tammy's produced an abundance of apples again. Interestingly, the Cortland trees produced only very few apples while the Stayman Winesaps were overloaded. The Northern Spies were somewhere in the middle producing so-so.
Tammy made 78 quarts of applesauce. The rest we decided to turn into cider. The last day of October saw temperatures pushing into the 70's! A perfect day for pressing apples into cider. We pressed 11 load into almost 20 gallons of cider! We never really figured out how many bushels there were. It took longer than we thought and we finally finished up well after dark. A lot of sore muscles but happy faces! |
